Wickwire Pool Construction To Start Later This Month

Local News

The Cortland City Council has approved the construction bid for Wickwire pool. Work is expected to start later this month.

The city received one bid to replace the 80-year-old public pool at Suggett Park. The William Watson Company out of Eden, N.Y. will replace the pool at a cost of $989 thousand dollars.

The city has been fundraising and applying for grants to repair or replace the pool for quite a few years.

Last year, the city was awarded a $800 thousand dollar grant to help fund the project.

The new pool will have a graded entry which will allow people with mobility issues and younger kids to get into the water slowly.

A two foot enclosed shallow area with water spouts will cater to smaller children. It will have 8 lanes for lap swimming and can be partitioned off for different skill levels and multiple activities.

The City DPW will demolish the old pool, construction is expected to be complete in May with the new pool opening next June.
