When students return to class in the Ithaca City School District next week, several thousand students will be given a new Google Chromebook.
4000 students in grades 6-12 will each be assigned a digital notebook.
Each Google Chromebook costs $250. The digital devices come with standard applications and students will be able to take devices home with them. Many of he features will work without internet access.
The discounted devices were purchased through a lease from BOCES, which covered 50 percent of the total cost.
The district anticipates a 10 percent loss rate, the cost of which will be covered by the district itself, similar to a textbook.
