The City of Cortland has approved low-interest loans for two small businesses. The money will help one get off the ground while another is expanding and creating jobs.
In separate votes, the City Council approved a $25 thousand dollar loan for a new children’s clothing store on Main Street. Growth Spurt which will feature new and gently used kids clothes and will open on the former Bangles Bags and Bling Store at 101 Main Street. The money will be used to purchase inventory.
The City Council approved a $30 thousand dollar loan to expand the Whole Heart Cafe at the Local Foods Grocery Store on North Main Street.
The Cafe will increase its offerings including more prepared foods. The local grocery opened last year in the former Cortland Hardware Store.
As part of the expansion, the cafe will add some part time food workers.
The money comes from the city’s microenterprise fund.
