Marvin Gaye’s son, Marvin Gaye III, was part of the successful lawsuit against Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke over “Blurred Lines.” He’s hoping to keep his legal hot streak alive when he files a new lawsuit against Lee Daniels and the creators of Empire for allegedly stealing the idea. According to TMZ.com, Gaye registered a treatment titled, Diamonds & Ballads aka Those Sons of Riches!, with the Writers Guild of America back in 2010.
The treatment was loosely based on his life growing up in the Gaye family and his interactions with Berry Gordy’s family. He described it as a Dynasty meets Sopranos. The treatment was allegedly shopped to people associated with Daniels who said during an interview, “I wanted to make a black ‘Dynasty.'”
Gaye’s lawyer told TMZ.com, “We understand that three things can’t be hidden for long: the Sun, the Moon and the Truth!”
