Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies have stepped up enforcement of a ban on swimming at a popular and often dangerous waterhole in Ithaca.
On Wednesday, Deputies arrested four people for swimming at the Second Dam.
The four men in their 20’s were each charged with trespass, ticketed and released. The stepped up enforcement follows the drowning death of 20-year-old Eric Richardson of Virgil at the dam last Sunday.
Swimming at the dam is prohibited, but the ban is often ignored.
Ithaca Town officials say the area has become even more popular due to social media. 3 of the four men ticketed Wednesday were from New Jersey the fourth was from Syracuse.
The town is considering hiring lifeguards to protect the area.
