A burnt out landmark in Ithaca will rise again.
The owners of the former Chapter House Tavern in Ithaca, which was severely damaged by fire this spring, have pledged to rebuild the well loved historic watering hole.
The remnants of the well known Ithaca bar with apartments above will be razed this week. It was determined that the structure, which dates back to the early 1900’s, cannot be saved. The good news is the owners are planning a new building that will attempt to recreate the look and atmosphere of the old Chapter House.
An early morning fire in April claimed the building. The investigation into what sparked the blaze remains open. Sources have said it may have been intentionally set.
Demolition is expected to start next month with the goal to have the Chapter House bar and student housing in the building reopened by August 2016.
