Cortland County’s Personnel Committee this week recommended another county administrator candidate to be voted on by the full Legislature at this month’s session on December 19.
While the person won’t be named until that date, he or she was approved at Tuesday’s (December 10) committee meeting by a unanimous 7-0 tally.
However, that certainly does make he or she a “shoe-in” by any means.
An administrator search committee was created last December (2018), tasked with finding a candidate for a vacancy that’s been in place since 2014.
In August 2019, Deruyter Town Supervisor Daniel Degear was unanimously recommended for appointment by both the Personnel and Budget and Finance Committees, but he was ultimately rejected by the full body by a 9-8 vote, with two legislators absent. (more here)
Since then, the search committee’s been unsuccessful finding and agreeing on another candidate, leading up to the personnel committee’s decision to do so on its own this week.
So far, it’s unclear whether the same thing will happen or not on December 19.
