A Homer Police Officer was recognized this morning for his extraordinary courage at the American Red Cross of WCNY’s 21st annual Real Heroes Breakfast, which was held at the Oncenter in Syracuse.
Officer Michael Howell was awarded the 2019 Central New York Heroes Law Enforcement Award, one of seven categories honoring heroes in our region.
Howell has been a police officer for 12 years, but has served as a first responder for more than 30.
He responded to a structure fire on April 5 and arrived before the fire department to find there were still residents inside the burning building.
Without hesitation, he entered the structure and helped them get to safety outside, continuing to follow up to make sure they were all ok.
Congratulations to a very deserving honoree, and a man we’re very lucky to have helping keep our community safe.
