Auburn Man Arrested for Violent IPO Violation in Cortland

Local News

An Auburn man was arrested Monday (October 28) after a passer-by witnessed him grab a woman and force her into a residence on Grant Street in Cortland, according to Det. Lieutenant Michael Strangway.

Cortland Police were called to the scene just before 2 p.m., where they say 43-year-old Roosevelt Coleman had pulled the victim into her own residence as she approached him.

Investigators said Coleman held his hands over the victim’s mouth at the time of the abduction to prevent her from yelling for help.

The victim, who sustained minor scratches on her face, had an active full stay away order of protection against Coleman, which stemmed from a previous incident.

With her permission, officers searched her residence and found him hiding inside.

He was remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail and was scheduled to appear in City Court this morning.
