A Freetown man was arrested Friday (October 18) afternoon for felony possession of stolen property, following a traffic stop on State Route 11 in the Town of Cortlandville.
Officers with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office arrested 54-year-old James Chorley but didn’t clarify exactly what he stole.
He’s been charged with a class E felony, which applies in cases where the value of stolen material exceeds $3,000.
The offense is punishable by up to four years in prison.
Chorley was also charged with two violations:
- Operation with uncovered/inadequately covered loose cargo (open truck or trailer) – NYS V&T Law 380-a(1)
- Uninspected Motor Vehicle
He was released on his own recognizance and given appearance tickets returnable to Cortlandville Town Court on November 18.
