The race for Cortland County treasurer is down to a write-in election between two unofficial candidates.
After nobody ran in the primaries, District 4 Legislator and acting Deputy County Treasurer Donnell Boyden threw his hat in the ring back in August. He also serves as chair of the Solid Waste Committee and served as chair of the Legislature for some time, beginning in 2015.
Joining the race yesterday (October 8) was John Banewicz Sr., who held a formal introductory event in Cortland’s Courthouse Park.
A veteran with the Army Corps of Engineers, Banewicz also worked with Verizon as a computer tech and now owns his own small business.
No candidates will be listed on the ballot for county treasurer.
Supporters of either candidate, or any others, will have to physically write in both their first and last name.
The contest will be decided in next month’s general elections.
