Investigation Into Student Housing Burglaries Leads to Arrest of Cortland Man

A Cortland man has been arrested for his role in three separate burglaries of student housing units in the city, including two break-ins on Lincoln Avenue and one on Woodruff Street.

After weeks of investigation, Cortland Police arrested 21-year-old Jonah Lightaul, of Starr Road, who’s now charged with a total of seven felony counts and three misdemeanors.

Lightaul’s charges include 2nd-degree Burglary (three felony counts), 4th-degree Conspiracy (three felony counts), Petit Larceny (three misdemeanor counts) and 1st-degree Providing a False Sworn Statement (felony count), according to Detective Lt. Michael Strangeway.

He’s been released and is set to appear again in Cortland City Court tomorrow (October 2).
