A Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputy has been found not guilty on all charges, stemming from a rape accusation in February 2013.
Thirty-four year old Scott Walters was first charged in 2017 and accused of raping and sexually assaulting a woman at his Lansing home, who prosecutors say was “physically unable to give consent.”
Also charged in the incident was Matthew Pinney, also of Lansing, who ultimately became a witness in Walters’ trial in exchange for a plea deal.
Walters was acquitted yesterday (September 18) after more than 11 hours of deliberation by a Tompkins County jury.
Pinney will still have to appear in October and plead to attempted forcible touching and reckless endangerment as part of his deal. Both are misdemeanor charges.
