Authorities Investigate ‘Lime Bikes’ Found Ablaze On Ithaca’s Northside

Local News

Ithaca authorities are investigating an incident from early this morning (September 18), where they discovered four different “Lime Bikes” on fire at three northside locations close in proximity to each other.

Police and Fire crews first responded to the area of North Cayuga and Cascadilla Streets just before 2:30 a.m. and found two of the bikes on fire.

Officials located and put out the fires with an extinguisher, before continuing on to check the surrounding area.

Minutes later, they found another burning Lime bike in the 400 block of North Geneva Street. A fourth was also found just before 3 a.m. in the 400 block of North Albany Street.

In each case, the fires were extinguished quickly and with no damage to any other nearby property.

“Lime Bikes” are equipped with smartphone-enabled location technology, meant for use on the Lime app which provides bike sharing to residents of the same general area.

Investigators are now for asking any witnesses, neighbors with cameras or anyone else who may have more information about suspects in this morning’s potential arson to contact the Ithaca Police Department.
