Officer Struck By Vehicle While Directing Traffic Near Ithaca Lowes

Local News

An Ithaca Police Officer was struck by a vehicle Saturday (September 14) morning, while directing traffic around an accident that had just occurred near the entrance of the Home Depot Plaza on Elmira Road and Route 13.

Police responded to that area just past 11:30 a.m. on reports of a 2-car crash with injuries, along with Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance.

The accident blocked up much of the intersection, forcing police to put two of its officers in safety vests to direct traffic around the scene.

Just before noon, one of them was struck by a vehicle being driven by Jordan Foster, of Trumansburg.

Foster then stopped his vehicle a short distance ahead and was subsequently arrested. No more information was released on his status.

The downed officer was brought to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
