A house fire on the second floor of a Hubbard Street residence on yesterday’s (September 2) Labor Day holiday brought out crews from the city of Cortland Fire Department.

Deputy Chief Wayne Friedman says the fire happened just after noon near the corner of Garfield Street.

Crews were able to extinguish it quickly and all occupants of the home were safely evacuated, later assisted at the scene by emergency volunteers with the American Red Cross.

Friedman said the home suffered moderate smoke and water damage and that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
