A Homer man was arrested early Friday (August 16) morning following a domestic dispute, in which Police say he choked and threatened to kill a 38-year-old woman who had a child with her, while also preventing them both from leaving or getting help.
According to Homer Police, 39-year-old Travis Witty, of Cortland Street, smashed the woman’s cell phone in the dispute so she couldn’t call anyone.
He also choked her and threatened to kill her with a screwdriver.
At one point, police say the woman was able to escape with the child in her arms, but Witty soon caught up to her and physically dragged them both back inside.
Authorities were finally called just before 1 a.m. and arrested Witty at the scene without incident.
He was remanded to Cortland County Jail is due in court later this evening, facing five misdemeanors and a violation. More charges are pending as the investigation continues.
Assisting Homer Police at the scene were members of State Police and the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.
