An armed robbery suspect in Auburn yesterday (August 15) was taken into custody after a more than six-hour manhunt, involving multiple law enforcement agencies, tactical/K-9 units and even state police helicopters.
Police say the robbery occurred just before 2 a.m. yesterday near Washington Street.
A person believed to be the suspect was later spotted around 9 a.m. in the area of Dexter Avenue and identified as Charles Williams Sr. Authorities described him as a career criminal who had commit yesterday’s robbery while out on parole.
Auburn Police then sent out a reverse-911 call to everyone in the immediate area that warned them about Williams’ sighting and advised them to lock themselves indoors until it was sorted out.
The search party then combed their surroundings and eventually zeroed in on a wooded area off Dunning Avenue near Cosentino’s Florist, where Williams was eventually taken into police custody just before 11 a.m.
His criminal charges are pending as the case is still under investigation.
Assisting Auburn Police with the search were members of State Police, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, and K-9 units from Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
