A Binghamton University student and member of the school’s basketball team was pronounced dead yesterday (July 15) after accidentally drowning in Ithaca’s Upper Buttermilk State Park on Sunday evening.
Calistus Anyichie was a Nigerian native who was entering his sophomore year majoring in political science.
Ithaca firefighters and rescue crews were dispatched to the 300 Block of West King Road around 5:00 and found Anyichie unconscious in the water.
A rope system was used to get him up and out of the ravine and so Bangs Ambulance could attempt their revival but it was too late.
Anychie was just 19-years-old.
