A special meeting that was supposed to take place tonight (July 8) on a new jail-needs report has been cancelled.
CRS Inc. was contracted to run a study on the current jail population and help predict how it might evolve in the near future.
Legislators say that report was due June 30, but they still did not have it in their hands on Friday (July 5).
Some legislators are still asking to see the report, while others feel the contract has been voided with the late submission and no longer wish to accept it.
The report was expected to help the Legislature make a decision about whether or not to spend about $50 million on a new jail.
More information about this study and its potential submission to the Legislature will be available in the coming weeks.
