Fallen Branches to Blame for Last Night’s Widespread Power Outages In Cortland

Local News

(Coverage area of last night’s outage)

A fallen tree last night took (June 13) down power lines on Broadway Avenue near the Cortland City Water Works, causing a transformer fire that led to power and traffic light outages across the city and beyond city limits.

Members of the Cortland City Fire Department worked as quickly as possible to remove the debris so utility workers could get in and repair the power lines.

Residents from around the city took to social media and other platforms to report their outages.

Police quickly arrived to the intersections to direct traffic into a four-way stopping pattern, which state law requires when a light is not functioning properly.

Most outages were restored just before 9:00 last night.
