A fight that broke out on May 11 between dozens of prisoners and guards at Auburn Correctional Facility ultimately sent eight of its officers to the hospital.
Sources say it all began when two inmates were being escorted back to their cells. At once, they refused to go inside and attacked, with around 25 other inmates quickly joining in.
Chemicals were quickly deployed to stop the fight and allow more staff to enter the block and help.
When everything settled, a total of eight officers from the prison were treated and released from a nearby hospital. One was knocked completely unconscious.
All inmates identified as participants in the attack were put in a special housing unit.
