Cortland Dumpster Fire Turns Out To Be From One-Pot Meth Lab

Local News

Cortland Police say a fire Wednesday (May 15) evening in a dumpster behind 31 Central Avenue was caused by a one-pot methamphetamine lab someone had thrown into it.

City police and fire responded just before 4:00 P.M. for a report of smoke coming from the dumpster.

First on scene was Officer Patrick O’Donnell, who through his training and experience was able to quickly identify the source of the “smoke” as a one-pot meth lab. Police say these set-ups are extremely flammable when exposed to moisture.

City fire stood by until personnel from the State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team arrived to remove the hazard.

Investigation into that incident is on-going.
