Two members of the New York Giants football team were in Tompkins County on Friday (May 10), touring the County Jail and discussing the alternatives to incarceration programs being used to reduce the its population.
The two players who attended were Antoine Bethea and Michael Thomas, both of whom are members of the defensive backfield.
Thomas has a history of giving back to the community. He was the Giants’ selection for the 2018 Walter Payton Man of the Year, which recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field.
Their visit to Tompkins County came in partnership with the Vera Institute of Justice.
