The New York Department of Transportation says work has begun on the repaving of Interstate-81, south of Syracuse.
The $8 million project includes both north and south bound lanes, from Route 20 in Lafayette to the I-481 interchange in Syracuse.
That’s a continuation of the project that began in Cortland County in 2016. Pavement joints will once again be reconstructed before the entire road is milled and paved and all ramps within the project limits will be addressed.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of November.
Motorists should expect daily and overnight weekday lane closures that extend for several miles, with only one lane available in each direction.
Some weekend work should be anticipated as well.
Work will be suspended on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, and on the 4th of July.
