JM Murray Holds Annual Awards Ceremony

Local News

JM Murray held its annual awards dinner on Wednesday (April 24) night, where Executive Director Ernie Dodge announced the 2018 award winners.

The Employer of the Year went to Walden Place and the Alan F. Brown Award went to Marissa Joyce from the Elizabeth Brewster House.

More on those awards from Dodge’s remarks Wednesday night below:

2018 Employer of the Year – Walden Place

“Beginning in 2015, a special relationship between JM Murray and Walden Place was established that embraced the belief that individuals with disabilities can become valued, contributing employees in a competitive, integrated business.

For the past three years Walden Place has provided work opportunities in their dining, office, personal care, housekeeping and transportation operations. In conjunction with Employment Connection, JM Murray’s supportive employment division, individuals with disabilities have been afforded the opportunity to develop self-esteem and the dignity that work affords.

JM Murray is very appreciative of the opportunities presented by Walden Place and we look forward to many more years of collaboration.”

2018 Alan F. Brown Award – Marissa Joyce

“Established in 1983 to honor the memory of Alan, this award was presented to Marissa Joyce. Marissa displays many of the characteristics Alan possessed. Her journey began in 2001, exploring site-based Prevocational Services within our work operations. Through the years and under her self-direction she has participated in almost all our Services.

In 2017, she decided she wanted to explore other community-based employment and with the assistance of our Supportive Employment Services, she began employment at the Elizabeth Brewster House.

Both Marissa and her employer have benefited from her employment. She has grown more self-confident and outgoing and they have an employee with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. She is well-received not only by her employer and peers but also the residents of Elizabeth Brewster, who enjoy her kindness and attentiveness to their needs.

Congratulations, Marissa.”
