The County Budget and Finance Committee met yesterday (April 16) and approved the appropriation of an additional $600,000 from the General Fund to the Jail Reserve for additional costs of boarding out inmates, as the jail remains closed.
The committee also placed new restrictions on what jail reserve funds can be spent on, passing a resolution that says the Legislature will only approve spending on projects aimed specifically at bringing the jail into compliance with the State Department of Corrections.
Cortland County Jail has now been closed off to inmates for nearly three months, following a major roof malfunction that caused a full evacuation.
The Budget and Finance committee also approved a candidate to recommend as its new director.
That name will be presented and voted on by the full legislature at their session next Thursday (April 25).
