A Groton woman was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center this morning (March 26) after an accident on State Route 222 involving two vehicles and a manure spreader.

State Police at Ithaca responded to the scene just after 7 a.m. near Salt Road in the town of Groton.

They say 41-year-old Jill Ashley Williams of Groton was traveling east on Route 222, when she rear-ended a manure spreader being pulled by a John Deere tractor belonging to the Fuller Family Dairy Farm in Groton. The tractor was being driven by 23-year-old Walter Vasquez-Ramirez of Groton.

Moments later, 71-year-old Albert Perreault, also of Groton, was also traveling east on 222 and didn’t see the two vehicles from the accident that were now partially in the roadway.

Perreault aultimately struck both Ashley Williams’ vehicle and the now-empty tractor.

First responders from McLean Fire Department had to extricate Ashley Williams from her vehicle and she was transported by LifeNet to Upstate Medical Center.

Groton Fire and Ambulance also assisted. No other injuries were reported.

State Route 222 was closed for over two hours for clean-up.

The cause of the accidents appears to be unsafe speed and bright glare from the sun.

No tickets have been issued at this time.
