The Ithaca Fire Department has issued a warning to the community to exercise extreme caution if you plan on hiking the gorges this spring.
While the emerging Spring season is one of the most beautiful times of year to be near the Ithaca gorges, it’s also one of the most dangerous.
Trails are extremely slick and unstable and will officially remain closed until they can be serviced.
Officials are also reminding neighbors about the bitterly cold waterways, which they say can be deadly and should be avoided.
They say explorers should always stay in safe, designated, open areas and hike with a partner.
Always know where you are and carry a cell phone in case of an emergency.
