There’s been more push back this week on the legalization of marijuana in New York State.
After Sheriffs from across New York State came together and announced their collective opposition last month, education advocates were in Albany Tuesday (March 19) lobbying lawmakers to leave recreational marijuana out of the state budget process.
Several groups sent representatives to the rally, including the Parent-Teacher Association, Rural Schools Association and Association of School Business Officials.
The rally was held just a day after a similar message was announced by the State School Boards Association.
A final state budget is due April 1 and Gov. Cuomo originally wanted it to include a provision for full legalization, but recently acknowledged the possibility of that happening is not likely.
Cuomo has said that he’s confident legalization may happen by June.
