Cortland Area Arrests: Drunk Disturbance on Madison, Burglary on Tompkins

Local News

A Lewiston man was arrested early Saturday (March 2) morning after a disturbance at an apartment building on Madison Street in Cortland.

Cortland Police say they were called to a residence around 3:15 Saturday morning, where there were reports of an unknown individual knocking at the door for approximately 30 minutes.

When Police arrived, they found 21-year-old Taylor Gibson, who they discovered to be highly intoxicated and lost.

Police say Gibson had urinated on the stairway and in the common area of the building. He did not know any of the residents.

Gibson was held for a time and then released on an appearance ticket to City Court on April 3.

A Florida man was arrested early Sunday (March 3) morning for a burglary that occurred on Tompkins Street in Cortland.

Cortland Police say the incident occurred just after 3:30 Sunday morning, where about $1000 worth of electronics and clothing was stolen from a Tompkins Street residence.

Initial investigations pointed to 33-year-old Kenneth Legrant, of Jacksonville Florida, as the suspect.

These suspicions were then confirmed when Legrant came into the Cortland Police Department later on in the morning on an unrelated matter and was found to be in possession of the items stolen during the break-in.

Legrant was scheduled to appear in court yesterday (March 4).
