Adam Lambert announced via Twitter that Queen + Adam Lambert would appear on Sunday night’s (February 24th) Academy Awards telecast, posting, “We will rock The Oscars.” The Freddie Mercury and Queen biopic is up for five statues — including the awards for Best Actor for the film’s lead Rami Malek, along with the prizes for Best Picture, Best Sound Mixing, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Editing. The 91st Academy Awards airs live on Sunday (February 24th) on ABC at 8 pm ET.
Brian May, who along with Queen drummer Roger Taylor served as an executive producer on the film, admitted that the lines were constantly blurred for him during the process of making Bohemian Rhapsody: “I find myself working on the edits, y’know, working on the film, I, I do kind of believe he’s me and I think, ‘Oh, what have I done there? Oh no, it’s him!’ It even suspends our disbelief, really. I love the way that Rami has captured not only Freddie’s great power and ebullience, but also the sensitive side, y’know the vulnerability of Freddie — of which there was a lot. Y’know, he came from very small beginnings, as you see in the film.”
