NYSEG and Avangrid are advising residents that natural gas safety inspections are now being conducted in our area. NYSEG says its currently working in Auburn, Geneva, Elmira, Binghamton, Ithaca, and throughout the RG&E Divisions.
These will be done during the week (Monday-Friday) from 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.
NYSEG says these inspections are mandatory and they’re required by the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) to perform routine leak and corrosion inspections, which assess the condition of the service line pipe and can quickly be completed.
All residents known to receive natural gas services should expect a visit from an Avangrid employee, who drive labeled white trucks and will have proper identification with them.
If you are not available and crews are unable to access the meter and/or service line at the time of the inspection, they will leave behind an informational card and attempt to make a second visit at a later time.
NYSEG says if they’re unable to access your meter by May 1, 2019, they may have to turn off your gas supply until your service line pipe is deemed safe, and a fee of $100 may be imposed.
This project will continue until all natural gas services have been inspected, potentially into 2020.
