Darius Rucker will take his love for golf one step further by becoming the PGA Tour’s first formal brand ambassador. The news was announced yesterday (Wednesday, February 6th) during his appearance at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in Pebble Beach, California where he is competing this week as part of the celebrity field.
This brand ambassador role means that fans can expect to see Darius appearing more frequently as a commentator on PGA Tour Live, across PGA Tour digital channels and in-person at PGA Tour events. The PGA Tour will also be sharing the stage with Darius and the other members of Hootie & The Blowfish on their Group Therapy Tour.
Darius said, “I am so proud to be a part of the PGA Tour, proud they want me to be out there representing them in a different way. I’ve been friends with so many guys on Tour and have done some really cool things with them over the years. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
It’s a widely known fact that if Darius is not on the stage or at home with his family, you’ll likely find him on the golf course. He has a definite passion for the sport, which he tells us takes up a lot of his downtime: “I only have one hobby, and that’s golf. That’s the only thing I do besides work and spend time with my family, the only thing I do is golf. Even when I’m playing bad I force myself to not be mad and look around and go, man, you know, ‘This is God! This is nature.’ You’re usually in an amazingly beautiful place that’s so manicured and so well-kept that what have you got to be mad about? I’m not gettin’ paid to play. That’s what I always tell myself, but it’s very important to me. I play as much golf as I can. I would play every day if I could.”
Darius was recognized on Tuesday (February 5th) night with the Arnie Award, which is presented to Golfers Who Give Back and reflect the values and generosity of the award’s namesake, Arnold Palmer.
