State Comptroller Audits Cortland County Town of Freetown

Local News

The State Comptroller’s Office yesterday released municipal audits from Town of Freetown in Cortland County, which found that three supervisors from 2016 through 2018 neither maintained nor required the bookkeeper to maintain complete, accurate and up-to-date accounting records and reports.

According to the audits, they also didn’t adequately oversee the bookkeeper’s work during their tenure by verifying that all transactions were properly recorded.

The Comptroller’s report made recommendations to the five-member Town Board in Freetown, including more oversight on these records in order to properly manage the Town’s finances.
