Foreigner Searching For Teen Inspiration For ‘Juke Box Hero’

Music News

Mick Jones and Foreigner are currently in search of the teenage fan who inspired the band’s 1981 classic hit “Juke Box Hero.” The band is hoping to locate the now-50-plus-year-old as a tie to the Jukebox Hero – The Musical, which will play an exclusive limited engagement at Toronto’s Ed Mirvish Theatre from February 21st to 24th.

In an announcement, the band posted: “Foreigner is looking for that ultimate fan who received divine inspiration from that ‘one guitar.’ If you are that fan — or think you know who it is — you could be joining Mick Jones and Foreigner in Toronto for the world premiere event. Help Foreigner find that ultimate fan by sharing tips and your personal Jukebox Hero story at http://jukeboxheromusical.com.”

Mick Jones told us that “Juke Box Hero” was inspired by a teenager who stuck around after soundcheck and was spotted by him when the band came back to the venue hours later. Jones recalls how he gave the lucky fan a night to remember: “We went to the soundcheck and it was pouring with rain and there was one sort of sad, lonely fan left, and he was standing there drenched. And I kind of took pity on him and invited him in and really gave him, like, backstage experience. We had them put him on the side of the stage, and I looked at the kid and I could see his mind whirling. I was just trying to imagine what was going through his head that’s how it gave me the nucleus of the song.”

Foreigner will next perform on February 22nd in Coquitlam, BC at Hard Rock Vancouver.
