Gov. Cuomo is proposing to ban the public release of mug shots and booking information by New York law enforcement when they make an arrest.
The Governor says the law would prevent third-party sites from charging hefty fees to people to get their mugshots taken down.
Supporters of the press have argued the law is vague, overambitious and could keep arrest records from being made public
The proposed ban would not include photos of suspects police are seeking the public’s help in looking for.
