A Cortland man and parolee was arrested Saturday (January 12) after he assaulted a 38-year-old female at a residence on Rickard Street and prevented her from leaving or calling for help.
Cortland Police say the assault occurred on Friday.
37-year-old Stevaun Punter of Rickard Street later made his victim drive him to the Sunoco gas station at the corner of Port Watson and Church Streets in Cortland for cigarettes. Once they arrived, she ran inside and pleaded the clerk to call the police.
As authorities were called, Punter reportedly got in the driver’s seat of the female’s car and took off.
Warrants were issued for his arrest and he was taken into custody the next day without incidence at his residence.
Records indicate Punter is currently under the supervision of NYS parole.
He was arraigned and remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail and was scheduled to reappear in Cortland City Court yesterday (January 14).
