The National Weather Service has a Winter Weather Advisory going into effect at midnight tonight to Noon tomorrow. (January 9th)
The Winter Weather Advisory is for Cortland, Onondaga, Madison, Southern Oneida, and Chenango counties.
The Weather Service say snow is expected with additional heavy lake effect snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected tonight through tomorrow morning with winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Additional lake effect snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches possible late tomorrow as well through Friday morning.
Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute on Wednesday.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
A Winter Storm Watch for heavy lake effect snow means there is a potential for a large amount of snow in only a few hours. Visibilities and depth of snow can vary greatly, impacting travel significantly. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
