State Will Soon Require Smoke Alarms With Non-Removable Battery

Local News

A new state law here in New York will soon require that all smoke detectors sold are powered by a 10-year, non removable battery.

There are also models available that can be hardwired directly to your home.

This new law will take effect on April 1.

Homeowners and landlords need to upgrade their smoke detectors before selling or renting homes and apartments in the state.

You should also still always check your alarms twice a year to ensure they’re working properly, regardless of battery type.
