Reward Offered For Help Finding Suspects Who Threw Dogs Out Moving SUV on I-81

Local News

A total of $16,500 is now being put up as a reward for help finding suspects who threw two beagle mixes out a moving SUV on Interstate 81 near Marathon last Wednesday (December 12).

The reward money has been pulled together by the Animal Legal Defense Fund ($10,000), People for Ethical Treatment of Animals ($5,000), the New York State Humane Association ($1,000) and a private individual $500.

State Police contacted the Cortland County SPCA Law Enforcement Department on Friday (December 14) to conduct a joint investigation into finding those responsible for the heinous act.

The tractor trailer driver who saw the crime and stopped to help the dogs says he believes they were thrown from an older model Dodge Durango, dark blue in color with rust along the rear hatch.

Anyone with information is asked to call SP Homer at (607)749-1614 or the CCSPCA Law Enforcement Dept. at (607)753-9386.

For inquiries about adopting the two beagles, contact the Broome County Humane Society (not the State Police) at (607) 724-3709.
