Tomorrow (November 29) night’s session of the Cortland County Legislature is expected to be a big one.
A public hearing on the tentative 2019 County budget will start the night off at 6:00, where anyone with concerns or recommendations will have the chance to speak in front of the full Board.
Once everyone has had the opportunity to do so, the Legislature will consider any standing amendments to the budget before potentially taking a vote to officially adopt it.
Some of the amendments that may come up involve recent developments that came out of the County’s Budget and Finance Committee meeting on Monday (November 26).
The County now estimates an increase in spending of just over a half million dollars compared to the original proposal ($556,813.19).
One of the recommendations from the Budget Committee includes adding $72,000 that would be split between four tourism organizations in the County: The 1890 House, Cortland County Historical Society, Lime Hollow Nature Center and CNY Living History Center.
Another amendment that may be considered involves the Downtown Cortland Partnership. A special meeting of the Budget and Finance Committee will be held at 4:00 tomorrow, in order to consider an amendment to give the partnership $5,000 out of the occupancy tax, after it was initially recommended to receive nothing from this allocation.
The County also recommended to transfer $270,000 in money it earns from nearby casino profits into its jail reserve fund.
Despite the anticipated increase in spending, all tax rates will remain as originally proposed last week.
