A Pennsylvania man who is a Fugitive of Justice from his state was arrested on felony drug charges in Cortland County last week.

The incident occurred on Thursday (November 22) morning just after 6:00.

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office say they initially pulled over 29-year-old Andre Miller for speeding on I-81 in Preble.

Police soon discovered that Miller, of Pottsdown, PA, had given them a fake name. They attempted to arrest him for this and he resisted.

Officers then searched Miller and found 1 ½ ounces of cocaine and a small amount of heroin in his possession. They also learned that he is wanted as a Fugitive of Justice in Pennsylvania.

Miller was arraigned at the Preble Town Court and held without bail.

He’s set to reappear in Preble tonight (November 27) at 6:00.

In an unrelated arrest by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, a woman was arrested in Cortlandville Friday night for driving drunk with two children passengers in her vehicle.

Officers of the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 1-car crash just before 6:30 Friday (November 23) night at the Sunoco Gas station on Route 13 in the Town of Cortlandville.

They say the driver, Justine Benoit of Deerfield, New York, was attempting to turn into the parking lot when she failed to negotiate the turn and struck an earth embankment.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

Upon further investigation, Benoit was found to be intoxicated and arrested for both a DWI and Leandra’s Law for having the two children passengers while driving drunk.

She was arraigned the next morning, released and will reappear in Cortlandville Court on December 10.
