John Deskevich, 91 entered Eternity and into the arms of his Savior on November 16, 2018.
The son of Anna and Michael, John was born and raised in Nanty-Glo, PA on October 26, 1927, John served in the United States Army stationed at Fort Bragg, NC and was honorably discharged in 1947
As a youth, John held various jobs including at Seibert’s Feed Mill and Alwine Dairy. John also worked at the Lincoln Mine and at Cardiff Imperial Coal Co as a coal miner.
In 1959 he married Katherine (nee Kozorosky) and moved to South Fallsburg, NY residing there for the next 48 years.
As a Union Laborer in Local #17 John was involved in building projects such as The Nevele and Concord Hotels and Monticello High School.
In 1992 John retired from the Raleigh Hotel after 25 years of service there.
John later moved to Cortland to live near family in Central NY.
John touched many hearts with his friendly and easy-going personality. He was a Master Gardener and it was his joy to share both his special techniques and massive produce with everyone. He was especially proud of his garlic crop.
He was a well-regarded hunter and avid fisherman and a gatherer of wild mushroom and native tree nuts.
John’s love of God was displayed by his love for others, his loyalty, sincerity and through many acts of selfless generosity. Tireless and hard-working John was first to lend a hand to help with any need at any time. His kindness extended well past his own family.
Most recently, John attended Holy Apostles Orthodox Church in Lansing.
Our beloved patriarch will be sorely missed.

Surviving are wife Katherine, daughters Anastasia Weinstein and Kimberly (Mark) Harmin. Four grandchildren, Jakab Weinstein and Jessica, Christopher (Megan) Harmin and Gabrielle (Gerry) Laird. Four great granchildren, Jasmyn and Ayden Harmin and Charlotte and Harper Laird.
One brother Steve (Millie) Deskevich and sisters Catherine (Metro) Domingo, Ann (Ed) Sabo and Irene (George) Nestor, and many nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by brothers Joseph, Michael and Andrew and sister Mary (Leonard) Tatomirovich.
Friends may call Mon Nov 26 from 11-12 pm at Wright Beard Funeral Home in Cortland.Service immediately following at same location.
Burial will take place in the spring at St Luke’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church cemetery, Warners, NY.
