Where To Find Your Free Halloween Candy Inspections Tonight

Local News

Tonight (October 31) is Halloween, which means lots and lots of candy for all the trick-or-treaters out there.

This is a friendly reminder to parents, guardians and other caregivers to inspect all candy thoroughly before consumption to ensure it is unopened, not tampered with and safe to eat.

There will be some help available for you tonight.

From 6-9 p.m., members of both the Homer Police and Homer Fire Departments will join TLC Emergency Medical Services for a free Halloween candy inspection at the Homer Fire Department, 45 South Main Street.

The Cortland Police and Fire Departments will also join TLC for their own free candy inspection at the Cortland Fire Department (Court Street) and the Armory building (Wheeler Avenue). They also say they have trick-or-treat bags of their own available for pickup at the Fire Station or City Hall.

There will also be candy checks during the same time frame at the Cortlandville, Virgil and McGraw Fire Departments as well.

One of the services in tonight’s inspections will include the use of metal detectors to ensure there are no metal fragments, pins or other metallic material present in the candy.

Members of law enforcement still advise parents and guardians to do their own thorough inspection as well, even if they attend one of tonight’s inspections.
