Homer Farmer Pleads Guilty To Labor Violations Related To Death Of Minor

Local News

Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced yesterday the guilty plea of a Cortland County farmer for child labor violations, following the death of a 14-year-old employee of his back in June 2015.

Luke Park, owner of the Park Family Farm in Homer, entered a guilty plea for numerous violations related to the death of 14-year-old Alex Smith, who was crushed by a forklift he was operating illegally under Park’s supervision.

Park also admitted that he employed other minors on his dairy farm and required them to work approximately 60 hours a week, which exceeds the 48 hour per week maximum for 16- and 17-year-olds when school is not in session.
