Do you ever think about dams near you?

The comptroller’s office compiled information on more than a thousand dams considered intermediate or high-hazards.

That’s one in five of the more than 5300 dams in the state at risk.

The high hazard dams in Cortland County, according to Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, are the Papish Pond Dam in Cincinnatus, The Stump Pond Dam (on a private lake) and the Melody Lake Dam (also private), both in Willet.
