Cortland Man Charged By State Police For Shoplifting And Arson

First, State Police were called to Walmart in Cortlandville on Monday evening for a theft, and their suspect taking off on a bicycle.

A few minutes later, troopers were called to a fire in a bathroom at the Dunkin Donuts just down Route 13.

The description of the donut shop suspect matched that of the Walmart shoplifter.

Investigators quickly determined the fire was no accident.

Police say that David Thompson, 28, of Cortland, was their suspect, charging him with felony Arson and Petit Larceny.

Thompson was arraigned in Cortlandville Court and sent to the Cortland County Jail with no bail allowed.

His next court dates are on Friday and Monday.
