Cindy Petrella of Homer was arraigned in Cortland County Court last week on new indictments charging her with Reckless Assault of a Child and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Petrella was first arrested in May 2016. Cortland Police say she shook a four-month old baby that she was caring for.
Police at the time said the child was first taken to Cortland Memorial Hospital. City Police were called in thinking the baby was injured in the city.
The child’s head injury required advanced care from Upstate University Hospital to treat bleeding on the brain.
The child was the youngest of two daughters of a family friend that Petrella was caring for.
In November, Petrella was allowed to withdraw a plea of guilty to Assault, a charge that was dismissed with the new indictments.
Judge David Alexander scheduled a conference for late next month.
Petrella faces a possible maximum sentence of 7 years in prison and 2 years of supervised release if convicted on these charges.
