Local News

Robert Mamoone, 31, of Cortland, tried to outrun Cortland Police officers who wanted him to stop on Thursday night.

Cortland Police report that Mamoone was spotted Thursday evening on his motorcycle on West Court Street.

Police knew he didn’t have a license, and after he wouldn’t stop, officers were concerned he might hurt others.

So they let him speed away on Groton Avenue and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

That arrest happened Monday afternoon, according to police.

Lt. Rick Troyer reports that Mamoone faces charges of Fleeing Police, Unlicensed Operation, No Exhaust, Failing to Stop, Reckless Driving and No Helmet.

Mamoone was jailed awaiting a thousand dollars cash bail and a City Court appearance Tuesday.

When officers caught up to him, he is accused of providing a false birth date.

Police say he was released until a City Court appearance scheduled on June 6.

Hoy is accused of threatening a 26-year old man via Facebook on Saturday night.
